I often hesitate to highlight these instances because it only provides fuel for the feeble-minded to challenge all science and scientific funding they don’t understand, but this was too good to pass up. (Plus they spell defecation in a really classy way.)

Just in case you’ve ever wondered how some penguins can shoot their poo so far — apparently it’s a mechanism meant to keep clean the nests they cannot leave — here is it, presented in an actual graph from a real life scholarly paper:

Now I can’t say there isn’t a good academic reason for wanting this information. I’m not an expert in penguin biology, so for me to say this is a waste of time would only show that I jump to possibly unwarranted conclusions based on too little information.

Perhaps it’s only information that would be useful to other animal biologists. And I’m fine with that because if I were a penguin biologist, I’m sure there would be good reasons why this would be interesting.

I might even read the entire paper just to see what might be um…propelling their interest. You can read it here.
